Infrared Thermal Imaging

"... In addition to using thermography during an energy audit, you should have a scan done before purchasing a house; even new houses can have defects in their thermal envelopes. You may wish to include a clause in the contract requiring a thermographic scan of the house... "

U.S. Department of Energy

Before Purchasing a House or a Building
If you are buying a residential or commercial building, an infrared scan (a.k.a. building thermograms) can help you to discover hidden problems that the seller may not even know exist.

Cost-Effective Predictive Maintenance
A thorough Infrared Scan (infrared inspection) can save you thousands of dollars in repair costs over the life of your building.

Energy Loss Survey
An infrared scan (infrared inspection) will detect air leakage and insulation defects. You can conserve energy and reduce your energy bill after remediation.

New Buildings
Even new houses can have defects in their thermal envelopes that can cost you money on a daily basis.
Before one-year warranty expiration, an infrared scan (infrared inspection) can reveal defects and will save you money.

With infrared cameras (a.k.a. thermal imagers), Potomac Homes measures the surface temperature for finding anomalies that can, under the right conditions, reveal water leaks, moisture intrusion, condensation, air leakage,  insulation problems, abnormal heating in electrical systems, defects in HVAC distribution systems, etc.

Infrared cameras cannot see through walls or other components of the building. They are not providing X-Ray, but thermograms. They are truly just measuring the surface temperature and thermal distribution of the target objects, passively and non-intrusively.

By interpreting surface temperature patterns, we can detect anomalies and pinpoint defects, which are corroborated with other instruments or further specialist investigation. Like moisture meters, thermography imagers are non-invasive investigation instruments that complement visual inspection.
