Infrared Thermal Imaging

"... In addition to using thermography during an energy audit, you should have a scan done before purchasing a house; even new houses can have defects in their thermal envelopes. You may wish to include a clause in the contract requiring a thermographic scan of the house... "

U.S. Department of Energy

Buyers
If you are buying a residential or commercial building, an infrared scan (a.k.a. building thermogram) can help you to discover hidden problems that the seller may not even know exist.
water intrusion
Cost-Effective Predictive Maintenance
A thorough infrared scan can save you thousands of dollars in repair costs over the life of your building.
overloaded branch circuit
Energy Loss Survey
If you want to reduce your utility bills, an infrared scan (Energy Loss Survey) will detect air leakage and insulation defects, and will help you conserve energy.
missing weather-strip
New Buildings
Before your warranty expires, an infrared scan can reveal defects and will save you money.  Even new houses can have defects in their thermal envelopes that can cost you money on a daily basis.
non insulated attic hatch
With infrared cameras (a.k.a. thermal imagers), Potomac Homes measures the surface temperature anomalies that can, under the right conditions, reveal water leaks, moisture intrusion, condensation, air leakage,  insulation problems, abnormal heating in electrical systems, defects in HVAC distribution systems, etc.

Infrared cameras cannot see through walls or other components of the building. They are not providing X-Ray, but thermograms. They are truly just measuring the surface temperature and thermal distribution of the target objects, passively and non-intrusively.

By interpreting surface temperature patterns, we can detect anomalies and pinpoint defects, which are corroborated with other instruments or further specialist investigation. Like moisture meters, thermography imagers are non-invasive investigation instruments that complement visual inspection.
