Radon Measurements in Single-Family Houses
Do you know what you are breathing in your own house?

U.S. Surgeon General Health Advisory

"Indoor radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States and breathing it over prolonged periods can present a significant health risk to families all over the country. It's important to know that this threat is completely preventable. Radon can be detected with a simple test and fixed through well-established venting techniques."

 January 2005

EPA recommends that all homeowners test their home for radon. It is easy and inexpensive. If the radon level is 4 pCi/L (pico Curies per Liter) or higher, a simple radon remediation system can be installed for simply venting the foundation of the home and providing an escape for radon so it does not collect in the structure.

Radon levels less than 4 pCi/L still pose a risk, and in many cases can be reduced.

It is highly recommend to measure the concentration level of radon in houses in Montgomery, Howard, Frederick counties, in Northern Virginia and in the District of Columbia.

The cost of radon testing is about $189 to $370 depending on the size and configuration of the house.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) and the Surgeon General strongly recommend that further action be taken for reducing the level of radon when the home's radon test results are 4.0 pCi/L or greater ("Action Level").

Another level set by the EPA is 2.0 pCi/L ("Consider Action Level"). At this level, the EPA recommends that you consider installing radon abatement systems in your home to reduce your indoor radon levels.

The national average indoor Radon level is about 1.3 pCi/L

Radon Abatement/Remediation is approximately $900 to $2,500, depending on the size and configuration of the house.

The results are instantaneous and you and your family can sleep at night.
